New Hepatitis C Point-of-Care Tests Approved in Canada

Health Canada has approved two new hepatitis C point-of-care tests: the INSTI HCV Antibody Test and the Xpert HCV VL Fingerstick. These tests can deliver results in minutes, reduce barriers to diagnosis, and expand access to testing in community settings. With faster and simpler testing, individuals can be diagnosed and linked to care more quickly, including in places like shelters, corrections facilities, harm reduction sites, and rural or remote communities. While implementation will require funding and training, these approvals mark an important step toward improving hepatitis C care across Canada.

INHSU 2025
