International Presentation Travel Grant

The Canadian Association of Hepatology Nurses (CAHN) is a national professional organization that represents and supports hepatology nurses across Canada. We promote leadership, clinical practice, education and research within the field of hepatology nursing. The advancement of hepatology nursing requires evidence-informed practice, critical thinking and life-long learning.

Toward this goal, CAHN has committed to supporting members in the dissemination of knowledge on a national and international stage. The IPTG Grant was developed to provide partial financial support for CAHN members to present at national or international conferences.

Grant Details

There are 2 Application periods in the year:

  • The Q1/Q2 Application period is January 1 – June 30.
  • The Q3/Q4 Application period is July 1 – December 31.

Applicants must apply for the time period that their conference/meeting falls within.

Grant amounts: maximum $1500.

Grant amounts offered vary and are calculated with consideration for:

  • Conference destination.
  • Conference duration.
  • Cost of registration.
  • Number of eligible applicants within the application timeline.
  • Additional support and funding the applicant has received.
  • Previous grants received from CAHN.

Application Process:

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a CAHN member for a minimum of one year prior to application.
  • Documentation that you have been invited/approved to present at the conference.
  • The member agrees to the report-back process (see below).
  • Grant eligibility is every two years; members who receive the IPTG Grant are ineligible the year following receipt of the IPTG.
  • Priority consideration will be given to members who have not received funds from CAHN in the past.
  • If the member who has received IPTG funding ultimately does not attend the conference, the IPTG application voids and the approved funds will not be dispersed.

Timeline:

  • Applications will be accepted until the final day in the application period (June 30 for Q1/Q2 and December 31 for Q3/Q4). Late applications will not be considered.
  • We aim to respond within 4 – 6 weeks of closure of the application cycle; timelines for review may be extended; applicants will be informed if this occurs.
  • Please do not apply more than once in an application cycle.
  • Funding support, if granted, will be provided subsequent to completion of the report-back process.

Application:

You will be asked to provide the following information on the application form below.

  • Conference details: name of conference, location, dates.
  • Proposed travel budget.
  • Letter of acceptance and/or invitation.
  • Synopsis of what you will be presenting.
  • Other sources of funding received or applied for.

* NOTE: if a CAHN member has been invited to present at a meeting/conference and will receive full funding from the conference planning organization to do so, the IPTG cannot be applied for.

* NOTE: Due to demand and fluctuating financial resources, an IPTG application is not a guarantee of funding from CAHN.

Selection Process:

  • The Selection Team will consist of a member of the BOD, CAHN’s Education Chair, and a representative of the membership.
  • Received applications will be blinded by the Administrative Assistant and provided to the selection team for review.

Report back requirements:

  • IPTG recipients agree to presenting back to CAHN membership, at either an in-person CAHN event, a virtual CAHN program (ie: CAHNference Bytes) or a written submission to be shared with CAHN members. Further, the member agrees to be recognized in CAHN’s newsletter and social media platforms.
  • Once the report back process has been completed, the receiving member will complete the reimbursement form and submit it along with original receipts; reimbursement will be up to the amount awarded by the IPTG Committee
