Purpose:

To establish guidelines for CAHN members, and volunteer members of the Board of Directors and Executive, to receive acknowledgements, awards and prizes.

Policy Statement:

A CAHN member may be nominated and receive any awards for which they meet the Award & Recognition Criteria as posted on the CAHN website. (Link added under Forms/Paperwork below.) An executive member may be acknowledged for their contribution to CAHN in the ways set forth in this policy.

Scope and Exceptions:

Board of Directors and Executive Members:

Awards and Prizes: Members of the Board of Directors and Executive are not eligible to receive CAHN awards or prizes during their active term, with exception of the Distinguished Service Award. Past Executive members are eligible to receive CAHN awards one year after their term has ended, and prizes immediately at the end of their term.

Acknowledgement: Members of the Board of Directors and Executive may be acknowledged for their volunteer contribution on the CAHN web pages, social media sites, newsletters, AGM presentations, and official association reports and documents. Members of the Board of Directors and Executive are encouraged to publicly promote their work with CAHN while adhering to the 2019.05.01 Association Representation Policy.

Procedure:

Awards: A CAHN member(s) may nominate a fellow CAHN member(s) for any award(s) listed on the Awards section of the website. (Link added under Forms/Paperwork below.) Nominated members must meet the criteria as posted on the website.

Nominations may be submitted up to one week before CAHN’s Annual General Meeting. Late submissions, up to the morning of the AGM, may be considered if time allows and the award category receiving the late submission has not yet been assigned.

The completed Awards Nomination Forms for all nominees will be reviewed by the Awards Committee – a minimum of two CAHN members appointed by the Board of Directors. The successful recipient for each award will be chosen by the committee. The committee will present their selections and rationale to the Board of Directors at the BOD monthly meeting prior to the AGM.

If the Awards Committee is unable to come to an agreement on a recipient, the CAHN President will cast the deciding vote.

The monetary value of the award gift will be decided upon each year by the Board of Directors. The Awards Committee will decide upon an appropriate award gift for each recipient.

Awards will be presented at CAHN’s Annual General Meeting.

Prizes: CAHN members and event delegates may be selected through contests or random draws to win a prize during a CAHN event. Prize selections and value will be made by the Conference Planning Committee or Regional Event Committee with approval from the Board of Directors. Members of the Board of Directors and Executive members are not eligible to receive prizes as set forth above in ‘Scope and Exceptions’.

Acknowledgement to Members Retiring or Leaving Hepatology: CAHN members either retiring or leaving the hepatology specialty area may either nominate themselves or be nominated, to receive acknowledgement of their years of contribution to the nursing profession and specifically hepatology. Members who retired or moved after the previous year’s AGM without acknowledgement may also be nominated.

At the end of the awards recognition ceremony at the AGM, the list of members will be read out.
