Welcome to CAHN

The Canadian Association of Hepatology Nurses (CAHN) is a national professional organization that supports and promotes hepatology nurses and health care professionals with an interest in the care of people who are at risk for or living with liver-related conditions.  Our mission is to advance the science and practice of hepatology nursing in Canada through the promotion of clinical excellence and leadership, facilitation of knowledge sharing and networking opportunities, and through advocacy for equitable policies and practices that address the social and structural determinants of health.

Our Values

Caring environments

We take a person-centred approach, recognizing that health is a human right and that people flourish under safe, inclusive, and caring conditions.

Clinical excellence

We believe everyone at risk for or living with liver-related conditions should have access to quality clinical care from a specially trained hepatology nurse.

Collaboration

We are committed to sharing knowledge and working together to improve health outcomes at the individual, community, and population level.

CAHN Events

CAHN hosts nurse education through in person and virtual events. In 2024, CAHN will host a nurse program, in person, at the annual Canadian Liver Meeting (CLM) in Toronto on March 2 and at CAHNference in the fall.  CAHNference Bytes, CAHN’s virtual education series, will continue throughout the year. Stay tuned as planning unfolds.

Become a Member

CAHN is run by members for members. Education and patient care are our top priorities. To support this, CAHN offers a generous travel reimbursement benefit to ensure easy access to our educational events. Full CAHN memberships are available to nurses in Canada who work with patients with liver disease. Click below to learn more about the many benefits of becoming a member of CAHN.

Friends of CAHN

We are excited to announce our new Friends of CAHN initiative. Our Friends of CAHN initiative allows those who do not qualify for a full CAHN membership to access CAHN’s educational content, tools, and events. This option is available for anyone interested in hepatology.

Competencies

The competency documents describe core competencies specific to particular liver diseases/conditions. CAHN offers educational resources to help members achieve core competencies.
